Define Compliments

Compliments show others how we feel, that we care about them and that we want to make them happy.

The lovey-dovey ones are nice, but really, as all of our mothers have said, it's the thought the counts. Casual or funny compliments are just as good as romantic compliments; they make someone you care about smile. You let someone know that you were thinking of them.

As a sidenote, for compliment vs complement, the one with an e means "to go well with something." Cabernet Sauvignon complements red meats, but you give your compliments to the chef.
